Person-Centred Care Begins with Listening

Good care begins with understanding the person receiving it.

Every individual has their own preferences, routines, experiences, abilities and aspirations. Person-centred care means looking beyond a care plan and taking time to understand what matters to that individual.

Listening is therefore one of the most important skills in care.

When people are involved in decisions about their support, they are more likely to feel respected, valued and in control of their lives.

Whether we work in domiciliary care, supported living, residential care or another setting, the principle remains the same: see the person first and the service second.
